Med Fest, Gruta da Boneca & IRS Deadline
15 June 2026 · Ismael Saywell
First of all, I want to give a huge thank you to everyone who replied to my last post to welcome Sukuna to the family. I was flooded with brilliant advice (and some fantastic photos of pets).
So he didn't get bored at home, I thought I'd give him a trial as my associate though, his patience didn't last...
Before the summer heat fully takes over the Algarve, the festival season is officially kicking off. If you are anywhere near Loulé at the end of the month, the annual Festival MED (MedFest) is returning from June 25th to 27th. The historic streets get completely transformed with incredible music, local crafts, and some of the best street food in the region. If you haven't been before, I highly recommend wandering through the old town to soak up the atmosphere.
If you prefer to be out in nature, rather than the busy streets, I recently discovered Gruta da Boneca over in Carvoeiro. A little less known than Benagil caves (and a lot less wet to get to!). Definitely worth checking out before the strong summer sun really kicks in.
Amidst the music and caipirinhas, there is one major piece of Portuguese bureaucracy we can't afford to ignore this month – the window for submitting your Portuguese personal income tax return (IRS) closes on June 30th (with very little leniency).
If you use a local accountant, it is always worth dropping them a quick message this week just to verify that they have fully submitted the return.
Navigating the portal can be a bit of a headache, so please feel free to reply if you need any guidance.
Hopefully, I'll see a few of you down in Loulé for MedFest!
Ps. Even though he quit on his first day, we're still best friends...
